The Seeing Eye Update

So, as you know, I have been accepted at Guide Dogs for the Blind and will be going to Oregon on March 3rd. Well, The Seeing Eye still hadn’t gotten back to me and  they were supposed to a few weeks prior. I understand they have delays so I’m not judging them about this or anything. But I’m trying to find a way to tell them that I apologize but i won’t be attending their school. That’s so hard to figure out because they have spent some money on evaluating whether I would be a good candidate. HOWEVER, like colleges, I am told that Guide Dog schools expect you to look around at other schools so I am hoping they will be understanding. Now just trying to figure out how to word that email..

And really, they haven’t accepted me yet. They have said that all looks good thus far and now I need to go in for a medical evaluation.

  1. Congratulations on getting accepted. I applied to Seeing Eye also and they said that I had too much sight. I was like…….do you see from behind my eyes? I am constantly falling because I can’t see curbs, steps, poles, etc. and even run into cars in a parking lot. Thank God they are parked. It was difficult for me to tell another School that I had applied at that I had gotten accepted elsewhere and had already gone and got my dog. I was told I would have an answer as to my acceptance in about 10 days after my interview and I waited five weeks and called them twice about it and they said that they would let me know and then I got a call from the other Guide Dog School and was asked if I could come in 2 weeks and I said yes. So I went and got my dog, came home and there was a message on my phone that I had been accepted. When I called them back, the lady got upset with me because I had not called her to let her know I had gone to another school. I told her that she had told me 10 days and I hadn’t heard anything in five weeks even after calling them twice about it. There is no telling how long I would have had to wait to actually get the dog. I was just getting the news of acceptance….not the dog yet and here was a school telling me to come on, so I did. Life goes on!
