So the past couple of weeks we have noticed Makiko has started having a little dandruff. During Finals there was a good solid 5 or 6 days where unfortunately I didn’t brush her because I was just too drained but I won’t let that happen again because I think that caused it. It was there when we went to Colorado but after many days of brushing her daily again, we came back to Texas and noticed it was gone. We also got her bathed at PetSmart (that’s a whole different story) and haven’t seen the dandruff since. Hurray!
You know what we have seen though? Lots and lots of hair… EVERYWHERE! One of the many reasons they have us groom our dogs everyday is to prevent shedding because our dogs go in a lot of public places and we don’t want others to be bothered by their shedding. Well, I started to notice before we left for Colorado that instead of emptying out the Zoom Groom once or twice, we were emptying it out 5 or 6 times.. and the amount she shed everywhere was crazy. That is when I reached out to the GDBLounge, a Yahoo group that is for GDB Guide Dog Handlers and Puppy Raisers. They recommended the Furminator and it has worked wonders, for I think both the dandruff and the shedding. What it does is painlessly remove the undercoat so she doesn’t shed it so much and gets rid of a lot of the loose hairs. It’s a wonderful product. Then if I brush with the Zoom Groom and her regular brush after that, we reduce the amount of shedding by a ton. We think she is shedding her winter coat, and I’m ready for her to be done.. the amount of hair is just crazyness.
So she looks beautiful, isn’t scratching, and doesn’t shed nearly as much. All in all very good! 🙂
