Um, Texas.. we have to talk. This heat is NOT okay, haha. Yesterday was 93, today is supposed to get up to 95.

Tuesdays is the day that Makiko and I don’t have anything scheduled so we have time to relax and get things done. Pre-Makiko I would spend the entire day lounging around in my apartment. However, now that I have Makiko I like to make sure she gets her daily exercise so we always find somewhere to go. Today we went to campus to pick something up and talk to a few people in the Office of Disability Accommodations. Man oh man it was hot. Walking to the bus and then the bus ride there wasn’t so bad. However, the walk from where the bus dropped us off to the building and then from the building back to the bus stop was pretty hot. I tried to get us to shady areas so that Makiko wouldn’t burn her feet. I felt the sidewalk on the way back and decided that we needed booties until it cools down. The rule of thumb that we were taught in training was that if we put our hand on the sidewalk for 5 seconds and it hurts, its too hot for the dog and they need their booties. So tomorrow we shall wear her booties. I’ll post a pic soon.

  1. What does the Office of Disabilities Accommodation do? When I attended university in the UK I received something called the Disabled Student’s Allowance, from the government which enabled me to purchase a stand alone Kurzweil reading machine which converted books and other printed text into speech. This was back in the early 1990s so the machine took up a fair portion of my desk! Do you receive government grants?
