November 23, 2013: My Roommate

I have had some pretty shaky roommates. I had one that wanted things her way or the highway. She was super clean and she just had a complete different personality than me. It was nice because she taught me to keep the kitchen clean and everything and it encouraged me to be a cleaner person, but it was still pretty miserable at times. I had one roommate that stole my medications and had some mental health difficulties (undiagnosed – I’m pretty sure), and it just made life really hard and miserable. I had one roommate who had social difficulties and I was her only real good friend and that put a lot of pressure on me when I had a boyfriend and a lot of friends that didn’t exactly get along with her. So with all that in mind, you can imagine my relief when I have a roommate who is fairly clean but not obsessively so, very relaxed around the house, very sweet and compassionate, helps me out when I need it, and very open and honest with me. It is very enjoyable to come home now and I am so grateful to be able to live with someone like this for over a year and finish out my Master’s degree with a home full of love. I really can’t tell you how nice it is to have such a great roommate.
