The Lone Star Guide Dog Raisers (puppy raising club in several different parts of Texas for Guide Dogs for the Blind) had an outing yesterday to Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex. They invited Makiko and I. The purpose of the outing was to expose the dogs to the water and good behavior. It was a lot of fun. I hadn’t ever taken Makiko in the water so it was definitely an adventure.
We started in the kiddie area with playgrounds and where she could stand/walk. At first she did this prance that she does when she wears her shoes, lifting each foot up very carefully and then putting it back down. But then she got used to it a bit. She tried to get out of the water when she got a chance sometime. We then went into the deeper pool; where she couldn’t stand on all four feet. She swam! It was so cute!! She did fairly well but again, didn’t particularly LOVE it. She did have fun though, especially when other pups came over.
We also got our leather leash stamped with an “M”. All Guide Dogs for The Blind leashes are the same so when you get multiple handlers and the dogs are off leash and you have leashes everywhere, it gets confusing. My leash has a certain feel so I’m pretty OCD about getting MY leash. This will help us.
