Sorry for the SHEDDING

I have a confession and  a related apology.

Over the past year, I’ve gotten really really lazy with Makiko’s brushing. It seems when I get home from work, all my body has wanted to do is feed Makiko, relieve Makiko, take a nap, wake up, eat dinner, work on stuff a little bit, go on a short walk with Makiko, and then go to bed with a little more playtime in there usually with Makiko.

My body/mind has NOT wanted to spend that much time grooming her. Now, don’t get me wrong, we did do her ears and teeth periodically.

So her shedding was bad. I don’t think I can describe to you how bad her shedding can get. We can literally get about 10 handfuls of hair or more every brushing.

So about 6 months ago when I realized this, I resolved to get better. To start brushing her every night like we learned in training. I started for a little bit, and then it didn’t last long.

It really bothers me when my Mom, or others comment about Makiko’s hair. They aren’t really complaining, they are just amazed at how much she’s shedding.

I don’t notice it. I only notice it when people sweep or get it all in one place. So it doesn’t really bother me. But it does bother me when other’s notice it. Well, we were recently at my boyfriend’s family’s house for Thanksgiving and we had to clean something up, I forgot, so we got the broom and his Mom started sweeping. I offered to help once I saw Makiko’s hair building up but she insisted that I hang out. However, there was a LOT of hair there and we were only there for less than 72 hours. Several dust pans worth.

So that was the final straw. I am really sticking to it this time, and you my blogging world are there to keep me accountable. Makiko does look so much better (although she naturally has a gorgeous coat), and it is a nice relaxing time for us both. I have a goal of doing about 5 minutes in the morning before we head out the door and a longer session every night. We will use the Furminator periodically but we will really brush her and Zoom Groom her.  I have already noticed a difference and hope it really does continue to reduce her shedding. She is really shedding a lot this time of year. Since we started this new routine, I wanted everything washed (sheets, her dog bed etc) and I’m really vacuuming my house tonight to see how much of a difference it makes.

So, to the family and friends who have encountered her massive amount of shedding, I apologize.. and here’s hoping it will be better in the future. 🙂

(If I specifically shared this post with you, that means I am specifically apologizing to you because I imagine you have suffered through our shedding.)
